Mums and Bubs: Pregnancy and Neonatal Care for Exotic Pets-1CPD
The information about care for expectant mothers and their neonates in general practice,
particularly for dogs and cats, is quite extensive. However, similar information for exotic pets can be
limited or conflicted.
I have been a vet nurse, working in various capacities, since early 2008, after arriving in Melbourne
on 1 st September 2007.
My education and experience background includes an Honours degree in Animal Science at the
University of Newcastle upon Tyne, followed by a Post-graduate Certificate in Education. I worked as
an Animal Carer at a wildlife sanctuary and a falconer at a bird of prey centre in the North East of
England. I then became an Electron Microscope Technician at Durham University.
I have received a Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing, a Diploma in General Practice and Cert IV in Training
and Assessment. As a vet nurse I have worked at Lort Smith Animal Hospital, Victoria University,
Healesville Sanctuary and Melbourne Polytechnic. I currently work at Warranwood Veterinary
Centre and as a wildlife carer. I am also a mum of my beautiful 6 year old boy, Hamish and I qualified
as a gymnastics coach in January 2022.
